Welcome to the Classic Metal Works News Page. Now you will receive up-to-the-minute updates about new products, product ship dates, and everything else having to do with CMW.

January 2012 - All-New Mini Metals Arrive at Long Beach, CA!

The all-new line-up of Mini Metals trucks and automobiles have arrived in Long Beach, CA. It takes about a week for the container to off-loaded, processed through customs, and travel, via rail the 2000 miles to our warehouse. We expect the shipment to be shipping from our warehouse the second week of February.

The TDH3610 bus in HO and N scale will not be included in this shipment. The factory was unable to complete production before the annual Chinese New Year shut down. The buses along with the new 1950 DeSoto sedans will be shipping early Spring 2012.

December 2011 - CMW Panel Member Survey is Complete

For those of you who are Classic Metal Works Insider members, you know that CMW recently conducted a survey regarding model railroad scenery. We are happy to report that almost 900 respondents completed the survey, 98% being model railroaders. That is incredible!

The survey covered many topics pertaining to - Scale, Era, Layout Scenery, and of course, vehicles.

We surveyed HO and N scale modelers separately believing each scale modeled has different opinions and needs... or so we thought. The actual sample size was almost half for HO and N scale, with the N scale modelers edging out the HO scale modelers by a slight margin.

Surprisingly, the answers to the survey questions for HO and N scale modelers proved to be very comparable. The only divergence in opinion was when asked about the time period they represented on their model railroad layouts.

The "Transition Era", the 1940's through 1950's, still commands the majority of HO modelers. With the "Second Generation Diesel Era", the late 1950's - 1970's, HO modelers right behind. The N scale modelers are spread evenly across the "Transition Era" through the "Present." The years before World War II were less than 5% and the years before the Depression were less than 1%.

We also learned what is important to model railroaders and their model railroad layouts. Things like, what kinds of scenery features model railroaders prefer to represent. And what model railroad hobby products are important to successfully realizing your goals. Including how model vehicles are used on a model railroad layout.

Ok, so we have this information, will we really do anything with it? ABSOLUTELY!

First and foremost, we will take the data and begin to make determinations as to where the market is and where it might be going. Once we have uncovered these trends we will critically asses our future product planning and make the necessary changes to satisfy our customers wants and needs.

And, you can bet, we will be asking more questions. Questions that will definitely shape what new products will be coming from CMW Holdings, Ltd / Classic Metal Works.
